I haven't posted in well over a week. I don't have any excuses. A lot of stuff going on in my little world I call my mind. Hard to wrap around so many things, you know. This is where blind faith comes in real handy!
Anyhow, I can't take credit for today's Bible study. I'm ripping off Pastor Jess, although I did go look it up and try to apply to my life as best possible. Partial credit?
Genesis 16:1-5
1 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar; 2 so she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her." Abram agreed to what Sarai said. 3 So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. 4 He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. 5 Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me."
OK, so the lesson I take away is this: God had promised Abram a son. They jumped the gun and used a substitute...rent-a-uterus... Because Abram had not had enough faith, he gave into temptation although God had promised and headaches ensued.
Makes you want to hold out, doesn't it? We live in an "instant gratification" society. It is hard for us to pass temptations when they are right in front of us. You can't help but have faith that you will rewarded for not acting on impulses to do wrong for a little fun.
